Who Has Bewitched You? Returning To The Truth of the Gospel

Scripture

“O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?” (Galatians 3:1)

Devotional

Paul’s words are startling—but necessary. The Galatians had begun their faith in the freedom of Christ, yet somehow they had drifted back toward bondage. They were deceived, “bewitched,” by persuasive voices that mixed truth with error. The result was confusion, compromise, and spiritual dullness.

Paul’s question echoes through the ages: Who has bewitched you? Who has distracted your heart, shifted your gaze, or enticed you away from the simplicity of the gospel?

We live in a world filled with subtle deceptions—half-truths, emotional appeals, and teachings that sound spiritual but lead us away from the cross. Like the Galatians, many believers today are in danger of trading grace for performance, or truth for trends.

The antidote is the same now as it was then: fix your eyes on Christ crucified. When Jesus and His finished work remain central, no false gospel can stand. When His truth anchors your soul, the spell of the world loses its power.

Faith must remain rooted not in feelings, movements, or personalities, but in the unchanging gospel of Christ—the One who saves, sanctifies, and sustains by grace alone.

If you sense confusion or compromise creeping in, return to the cross. Remember what Jesus has done for you. The light of His truth always breaks the spell of deception.

Takeaway & Reflection

The only safeguard against spiritual deception is a steadfast gaze upon the crucified Christ and an unwavering commitment to His truth.

  • False teaching always distorts grace; truth always restores it.
  • Keeping Christ central protects the heart from compromise.
  • The cross is the anchor that breaks every spell of deception.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the clarity of Your truth and the freedom found only in Christ. Guard my heart from deception and distraction. Keep my eyes fixed on Jesus—the crucified and risen Savior—and anchor me in Your unchanging grace.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
