Scripture
“However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.’ But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:6–10, NKJV)
Devotional
Paul contrasts two kinds of wisdom—the temporary insight of this world and the eternal wisdom of God. The rulers and philosophers of his day prided themselves on intellect, yet their wisdom led them to crucify “the Lord of glory.” In God’s sovereign design, what appeared foolish to the world was the unfolding of His hidden plan of redemption.
True wisdom is not discovered by human reasoning but revealed by the Holy Spirit. It cannot be grasped through intellect or effort, but only through revelation. God’s wisdom was “hidden” not because He wanted to keep it secret, but because it could only be understood through the Spirit’s illumination. To the believer, what once seemed foolish becomes glorious as the Spirit opens the eyes of faith.
Paul reminds us that this wisdom was “ordained before the ages for our glory.” In other words, God’s redemptive plan was not a reaction to sin—it was His eternal purpose. Through the Spirit, believers are invited into this divine understanding, where mysteries become clear and hearts come alive with truth.
The same Spirit who inspired Scripture now indwells every believer, enabling us to discern God’s ways and walk in His wisdom. This means that true maturity isn’t measured by knowledge alone, but by spiritual discernment—by listening to the Spirit who reveals the heart of God to those who love Him.
Takeaway & Reflection
True wisdom is revealed, not reasoned.
- The Holy Spirit unveils what human intellect cannot comprehend.
- God’s wisdom was hidden in the cross, revealed to those who believe.
- Spiritual maturity grows through surrender to the Spirit’s leading.
