The Spirit Enables Us to Know God’s Wisdom

Scripture

“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” (1 Corinthians 2:12–13, NKJV)

Devotional

The Christian life is not about human discovery—it’s about divine revelation. Paul reminds the Corinthians that what we know of God, we know because His Spirit has made it known to us. The Holy Spirit bridges the vast gap between the human mind and the heart of God, revealing the truth of grace, the riches of salvation, and the depth of His love.

The Spirit of God opens our eyes to what cannot be learned through intellect alone. We don’t earn spiritual understanding by reasoning our way to it; we receive it by the Spirit who dwells within us. Through Him, we begin to grasp what has been “freely given” to us—truths that bring peace, assurance, and joy to the believer’s heart.

Paul contrasts this divine wisdom with the world’s teaching. The “spirit of the world” thrives on pride, self-sufficiency, and performance, but the Holy Spirit reveals a wisdom rooted in humility and dependence. He teaches us to see life through the lens of redemption—to discern the eternal within the temporary.

When we listen to the Spirit, Scripture comes alive. Familiar passages speak fresh truth, and the gospel’s beauty deepens. Every believer has this gift: the indwelling presence of the Spirit who reveals, reminds, and renews. God never intended His Word to remain hidden—He gave His Spirit so that we might know Him personally and walk in His wisdom daily.
