Scripture
“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:14–16, NKJV)
Devotional
Paul draws a clear distinction between two ways of living: the natural man and the spiritual man. The natural man—one without the Spirit—cannot understand the things of God because they must be spiritually discerned. The spiritual man, on the other hand, is guided by the Holy Spirit and possesses the “mind of Christ,” allowing him to see life from God’s perspective.
Spiritual understanding requires spiritual life. The things of God often appear foolish to those who depend on human reasoning because divine truth cannot be grasped apart from revelation. It is the Spirit who enlightens our minds and softens our hearts, transforming the way we think, discern, and respond.
Paul’s phrase, “we have the mind of Christ,” is one of Scripture’s most extraordinary promises. Through the indwelling Spirit, believers can think with the humility, wisdom, and discernment of Jesus Himself. The world seeks knowledge to elevate self; the believer seeks wisdom to glorify God. The difference is not intellect—it’s intimacy with the Spirit of God.
To walk as a spiritual person is not to live in superiority, but in surrender. The more we yield to the Spirit’s voice, the more our minds are renewed to reflect Christ’s. In a world governed by opinion, we are called to think, discern, and live by the truth revealed through the Spirit.
Takeaway & Reflection
The spiritual mind sees life through the lens of Christ.
- The natural mind cannot grasp what only the Spirit reveals.
- Spiritual discernment flows from intimacy with God.
- Having the mind of Christ means humility, wisdom, and submission to the Spirit.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for giving me the mind of Christ through Your Spirit. Help me to see life through Your truth and to think with a heart surrendered to You. Guard me from the pull of worldly thinking, and teach me to discern what is good, pleasing, and perfect in Your sight.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
