Scripture
“Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel… by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you…” (1 Corinthians 15:1–2, NKJV)
Devotional
After correcting division, immorality, pride, disorder, and confusion in the Corinthian church, Paul returns to the most important truth of all: the gospel.
Before addressing resurrection, Paul reminds them where their foundation must remain. The gospel was not merely the message that introduced them to Christ, it was the message in which they now stood. It was their anchor, their hope, and their assurance.
This is important because believers can slowly drift from the simplicity of the gospel. We can become consumed with secondary issues, distracted by arguments, or weighed down by circumstances, forgetting the very truth that gives life to everything else.
Paul reminds them:
- the gospel was received
- the gospel saves
- the gospel is where believers stand
We do not outgrow the gospel.
We grow deeper into it.
The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus are not merely entry points into Christianity; they are the center of the Christian life itself. Every act of obedience, every expression of love, every step of faith flows from what Christ has already accomplished.
Notice also Paul’s phrase: “if you hold fast.”
True faith clings to the gospel even when culture shifts, suffering comes, or doubts arise. The believer’s stability is found not in emotion or circumstance, but in holding tightly to the truth of Christ crucified and risen.
The gospel is not only what saves us initially, it is what sustains us daily.
When everything else feels uncertain, stand there.
Takeaway & Reflection
The gospel is the foundation believers are meant to stand in daily.
- We never move beyond our need for the gospel.
- Christ’s death and resurrection anchor every part of life.
- Holding fast to truth steadies us in uncertain times.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gospel of Jesus Christ. Help me never drift from the truth that saves and sustains me. Anchor my heart in the finished work of Christ, and teach me to stand firmly in the hope of His death and resurrection each day.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
