Scripture
“I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him… so that you come short in no gift… God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1 Corinthians 1:4–9, NKJV)
Devotional
Before Paul addresses the Corinthians’ failures, he celebrates God’s grace in their lives. He does not begin with what is wrong, but with what is true. These believers, imperfect, divided, and struggling, had been lavished with God’s grace. They were enriched, gifted, and called into the fellowship of Christ Himself.
Paul knew that their problems were real, but he also knew that God’s work in them was even more real. Grace was not just their starting point; it was their sustaining power. And before correcting them, Paul reminds them, and us, of this essential truth:
God’s faithfulness is greater than our weakness.
- They lacked maturity, but they lacked no gift.
- They stumbled often, but they were kept by Christ.
- They struggled in holiness, but God had set them apart.
And Paul anchors their hope not in themselves but in this promise: “God is faithful.”
The Christian life is not the story of our consistency, but of His. He is the One who called us, who strengthens us, and who will sustain us “to the end” (v. 8). Our failures do not cancel His faithfulness; they draw us deeper into dependence on His grace.
- When we falter, He holds us.
- When we feel inadequate, He equips us.
- When we fear the future, He promises completion.
The One who began the good work will finish it.
Takeaway & Reflection
Our confidence rests in God’s unfailing faithfulness.
- Grace enriches and equips every believer.
- Our calling is upheld not by our strength, but by Christ’s.
- God will sustain us to the end, because He is faithful.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the grace that saves, strengthens, and sustains. Remind me that my hope does not rest in my performance but in Your faithfulness. Help me live in the richness of Your grace and trust You to complete the work You began in me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
