Scripture
“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him… But he who is spiritual judges all things… For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:14–16, NKJV)
Devotional
Paul draws a sharp line between two ways of seeing the world: the natural and the spiritual. The natural person, untouched by the Spirit, cannot grasp the things of God. Spiritual truth seems foolish to him, not because it is irrational, but because it is revealed by the Spirit, not discovered by natural means.
But the believer, Paul says, is different. You have been given the mind of Christ, the ability to understand God’s truth, to discern God’s ways, and to see life through a spiritual lens. This is not pride; it is grace. The Spirit enables you to evaluate life with clarity the world cannot possess.
The spiritual person “judges all things,” meaning he discerns what is true, what is false, what is wise, and what is harmful, not by instinct alone, but by the Spirit illuminating Scripture within his heart. This is why Christians often see danger where the world sees freedom, beauty where the world sees boredom, and truth where the world sees foolishness.
The believer is not a spectator of the world’s wisdom but a recipient of God’s. And because we have the mind of Christ, we are able to love what He loves, reject what He rejects, and value what He values.
This passage calls us to live with Spirit-shaped thinking, to let God’s Word shape our decisions, conversations, desires, and interpretations of life.
Takeaway & Reflection
Spiritual understanding comes from the Spirit, not the world.
- The natural mind cannot grasp God’s truth.
- Believers are given spiritual discernment through the Spirit.
- We have the mind of Christ, the ability to see with clarity and walk in wisdom.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for giving me the mind of Christ. Teach me to think with spiritual clarity, to discern truth from error, and to value what You value. Guard my mind from the spirit of this age and help me walk in the wisdom that comes from Your Spirit alone.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
