Scripture
“Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” (1 Timothy 6:17–19)
Devotional
Paul’s words remind us that wealth—like all earthly blessings—is a test of the heart. Possessions are not evil, but misplaced trust is dangerous. The problem is not in having riches, but in riches having us. That’s why Paul warns believers not to rely on what is “uncertain,” but to put their confidence in the living God, the true source of every good thing.
The measure of our wealth is not found in what we keep, but in what we give. God blesses us not to build comfort, but to cultivate compassion. When our hearts are anchored in Him, generosity becomes a joy, not a duty. Every act of giving—whether time, kindness, or resources—is an investment in eternity, a deposit into a foundation that cannot crumble.
Paul’s instruction is both freeing and redirecting: enjoy what God provides, but hold it loosely. Be “ready to give” and “willing to share.” For in living this way, we become truly rich—rich in good works, rich in love, rich in eternal reward.
True wealth is not measured by what is in the bank, but by what overflows from the heart. The believer who lives open-handed before God will always find that He never fails to provide—and that joy multiplies when generosity flows.
Takeaway & Reflection
God entrusts us with blessings to make us stewards, not owners.
- Trust the Giver, not the gift.
- Generosity reflects the heart of Christ.
- Eternal wealth is stored through faithful giving and good works.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the source of every good thing. Help me to hold loosely what You’ve given and to trust You more than possessions. Make me generous in spirit, rich in good works, and ready to share. May my life reflect the joy of giving and the eternal riches found only in You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
