Nothing But the Cross

Scripture

“For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2, NKJV)

Devotional

Paul’s words capture the singular focus of his life and ministry. Surrounded by a culture obsessed with intellect, rhetoric, and status, he chose to know one thing—and one thing only: Jesus Christ and Him crucified. His determination wasn’t a limitation of knowledge but a declaration of priority. Everything else in life finds meaning only in light of the cross.

The cross is the lens through which we see everything rightly—God, ourselves, and the world. It reveals the depth of human sin and the height of divine love. It silences pride and redefines wisdom. To center our lives on the cross is to anchor ourselves in the unchanging truth that salvation, strength, and identity flow from what Christ accomplished there.

Paul’s resolve is a reminder that faith is not about adding Jesus to an already busy life—it’s about building everything on Him. The message of the cross confronts our self-reliance, comforts our brokenness, and calls us to continual surrender. When Christ crucified remains at the center, everything else falls into proper perspective.

The church at Corinth needed this reminder, and so do we. Our hope is not in human brilliance, eloquence, or ability. It’s in the crucified Savior who brings life through death and victory through humility. To know Christ and His cross is to know the power and wisdom of God Himself.

Takeaway & Reflection

The cross is the center of the Christian life.

  • It reveals both God’s love and our need.
  • True wisdom begins with surrender, not achievement.
  • Every area of life must be shaped by the truth of the cross.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the cross of Christ—my hope, my peace, and my salvation. Help me to live with the same resolve as Paul, keeping Jesus at the center of all I do. Let the power of the cross shape my thoughts, my choices, and my heart each day.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
