Little by Little

Scripture

“And the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you little by little; you will be unable to destroy them at once, lest the beasts of the field become too numerous for you.” (Deuteronomy 7:22, NKJV)

Devotional

After assuring Israel of His presence, God gives them another truth just as important: His deliverance would come little by little. The victory would be complete, but it would not be immediate. God, in His wisdom, would remove the enemies gradually—not because He lacked power, but because His people lacked readiness.

We often want God to work quickly. We want instant breakthroughs, immediate answers, sudden transformation. But God knows that rapid victories can create new vulnerabilities. Israel wasn’t strong enough to occupy the whole land at once; if God removed everything overnight, the land would be overrun with wild beasts. In other words, quick success could create long-term harm.

So God chooses “little by little” — a pace that protects, prepares, and strengthens His people.

The same is true for us.

Sanctification often comes slowly. Prayers are answered through process. Growth happens step by step, day by day. Battles are won inch by inch. Not because God is reluctant, but because He is wise. He is shaping us, guarding us, and teaching us as He works.

The delays are not denials — they are protection.

The gradual victories are not deficiencies — they are grace.

The slow progress is not punishment — it is preparation.

When God moves “little by little,” He is ensuring that the blessing will not overwhelm us and the victory will not crush us. He is making us ready to walk in the fullness of what He has promised.

Takeaway & Reflection

God’s pace is always purposeful.

  • What feels slow to us is protection from what we can’t yet see.
  • Gradual victories produce deep roots and enduring strength.
  • “Little by little” is not God withholding — it is God wisely preparing.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for every victory — whether sudden or slow. Help me trust Your timing when progress feels small or delayed. Teach me to see Your wisdom in every step, and to walk patiently in the path You set before me. Establish my heart in the truth that Your ways are perfect and Your timing is always for my good.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
