Scripture
“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him.” (Matthew 14:30–31, NKJV)
Devotional
Peter walked on water — not because he was fearless, but because his eyes were fixed on Jesus. As long as his focus remained steady, he did what seemed impossible. But when his attention shifted to the wind and waves, fear overtook him, and he began to sink. Jesus immediately reached out and caught him — not with rebuke, but with compassion.
Fear grows when our gaze drifts from Christ to circumstance. Like Peter, we often begin in faith but falter when we focus on what’s crashing around us instead of Who is walking toward us. The storms of our time—wars, deception, despair, and division—can easily distract our hearts. Yet even when our faith wavers, Jesus never loses sight of us. When we cry out, “Lord, save me,” His hand is already extended.
Every trial becomes an invitation to deeper trust. The same Lord who allows the storm is the One who uses it to strengthen our faith. Like Peter, we are being shaped—refined into disciples who walk with greater courage, steadiness, and dependence on Him. We may stumble, but His grace keeps us standing.
The safest place in any storm is not calm waters—it’s the hand of Christ. Keep your eyes there, and you will find peace even when the waves rise high.
Takeaway & Reflection
Keeping our eyes on Jesus is the only way to walk through storms without sinking.
- Fear grows when we focus on the storm instead of the Savior.
- Jesus is always within reach when we call on Him.
- Every storm is shaping us into stronger, more faithful disciples.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Teach me to walk by faith, not by sight. When fear surrounds me, lift my eyes to Jesus. Help me to trust that You are near and working through every storm. Thank You for reaching out whenever I cry, “Lord, save me.” Strengthen my faith, steady my heart, and fix my eyes on You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
