Scripture
“If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.” (Isaiah 7:9b, NKJV)
Devotional
When the prophet Isaiah delivered this message to King Ahaz, Judah was trembling. Two enemy nations had joined forces to attack, and fear spread like wildfire through Jerusalem. God sent Isaiah to tell Ahaz not to panic—to stand firm, because the Lord Himself would protect His people. But the promise came with a condition: “If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.”
God’s presence was certain; Ahaz’s stability was not. The Lord was there—unchanging, faithful, and in control—but Ahaz’s failure to believe left him unstable, ruled by fear rather than faith. It wasn’t God who shifted—it was the heart of the king.
Centuries later, the apostle Paul found himself in Corinth, weary and anxious. Acts 18 tells us that the Lord appeared to him in the night, saying, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you.” The same God who spoke to Ahaz spoke again to Paul: I am here. Believe, and be established.
Faith doesn’t create God’s presence—it recognizes it. When we believe, our hearts become anchored in what is true rather than what is felt. Fear and faith cannot rule the same space. The difference between being shaken and being steady is not the size of the storm, but the strength of our trust.
Whether the situation is political, personal, or spiritual, the principle stands: when we rest in who God is, we become immovable. He will accomplish His will—our belief doesn’t make Him faithful, but it does make us stable.
Takeaway & Reflection
Belief anchors us in what never changes.
- God’s presence is constant, but our peace depends on faith.
- Fear fades when we trust His sovereignty.
- We are established when we stand on His promises, not our emotions.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You are faithful even when I waver. Help me to trust that You are near and working in every circumstance. Strengthen my faith when fear rises, and establish my heart in Your unshakable truth. Let my confidence be found not in what I feel, but in who You are.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
