Scripture
“You shall not be terrified of them; for the Lord your God, the great and awesome God, is among you.” (Deuteronomy 7:21, NKJV)
Devotional
Israel stood on the edge of the promises of God, but what lay between them and those promises was intimidating: fortified cities, fierce enemies, and unknown challenges. From a human perspective, the obstacles were overwhelming. Yet God gives a simple, steadying command—“You shall not be terrified of them.” Why? Because He was with them.
God never minimized the size of the enemies — He magnified the reality of His presence.
Israel’s courage wasn’t meant to come from confidence in themselves, but from confidence in the “great and awesome God” who walked among them. Their victory would not come from their strength, strategy, or skill, but from the One who had never failed them.
We face our own “inhabitants of the land”: fears about the future, relational battles, unseen spiritual warfare, or circumstances that feel too big to manage. The enemy always appears larger when we forget who stands beside us. But this verse calls us back to truth: whatever confronts us, we do not face it alone.
Fear shrinks when God is rightly seen.
When the Lord is “among you,” courage isn’t about feeling strong — it’s about trusting the One who is. The same God who parted seas, conquered giants, and kept His covenant with Israel is the God who walks with you today. His presence is your confidence. His faithfulness is your assurance. His power is your peace.
Takeaway & Reflection
Fear loses its strength when we remember who is with us.
- Courage comes from God’s presence, not our ability.
- No enemy is greater than the God who goes before His people.
- We can walk forward boldly because the great and awesome God is among us.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that I never face life’s battles without You. When fear rises and enemies seem overwhelming, remind me of Your presence. Help me trust in Your strength, rest in Your faithfulness, and walk forward with courage. You are great, You are awesome, and You are with me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
