Scripture
“Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, ‘Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city.’” (Acts 18:9–10, NKJV)
Devotional
Paul had come to Corinth exhausted. He had faced rejection in Athens, persecution in Macedonia, and loneliness on the road. The once-bold preacher of the gospel now felt anxious and worn. In the stillness of the night, the Lord broke through his fears with a simple reminder—“Do not be afraid…for I am with you.”
God did not remove Paul’s difficulties; He reaffirmed His presence. The promise didn’t mean there would be no opposition, but that Paul would not stand alone. The command to keep speaking came wrapped in the assurance that God’s power and protection surrounded him. What Paul needed was not a change in circumstances but a renewal of confidence in the One who sent him.
The same God who spoke to Isaiah centuries earlier spoke again to Paul—not to correct unbelief, but to calm a faithful servant’s weary heart. Paul had learned that fruitful ministry often invited fierce opposition, and he likely sensed what was coming. The Lord’s reassurance, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you,” wasn’t to spark faith where there was none, but to strengthen faith already present. The stability of the servant still depended on trust in the presence of the Master. When we believe that God is near, even battle-tested hearts can find renewed courage.
This encounter reminds us that divine encouragement often comes in our most vulnerable moments. The Lord does not scold His servants for weakness; He strengthens them with truth. Faith doesn’t deny hardship—it sees God in the midst of it.
When you grow weary in the work God has called you to, remember this: your strength may fade, but His presence never does.
Takeaway & Reflection
Faith steadies the weary heart when we remember God’s presence.
- God’s command not to fear is always paired with His promise to stay.
- Courage is born not from confidence in self, but from trust in God.
- Belief in His nearness turns anxiety into assurance.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You never leave those You call. When fear whispers and courage falters, remind me of Your presence. Help me to keep speaking truth, serving faithfully, and walking forward in the assurance that You are with me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
