Scripture
“Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.” (James 5:7, NKJV)
Devotional
Waiting is rarely easy.
We long for answers, relief, healing, and justice. We want God to act quickly, to resolve what is difficult, and to bring His promises to pass without delay.
James gently reminds us that God’s timetable is not our own.
He points us to a farmer.
A farmer does everything he can to prepare the soil, sow the seed, and tend the field. But once the seed is planted, there is one thing he cannot do:
He cannot make it grow.
He must wait.
Not because he is passive, but because he trusts the process that God has established.
James says our lives are often like that.
There are prayers we have prayed for years.
Promises we are still waiting to see fulfilled.
People we long to see come to Christ.
Circumstances we wish would change today.
Yet God calls us to patient endurance.
Biblical patience is not resignation. It is hopeful perseverance. It continues trusting when nothing seems to be happening because it believes God is working beneath the surface.
James then gives us the reason for our patience: “For the coming of the Lord is at hand.”
Our hope is not merely that circumstances will improve.
Our hope is that Christ is coming.
Every day we wait is one day closer to His return. Every hardship has an expiration date. Every injustice will one day be made right. Every tear will one day be wiped away.
Until then, we are called to remain faithful.
Like the farmer…
Keep sowing.
Keep praying.
Keep trusting.
The harvest belongs to the Lord.
Takeaway & Reflection
Patient faith trusts God’s timing while looking forward to Christ’s return.
- Waiting is an act of trust.
- God is working even when growth is unseen.
- Our ultimate hope is the return of Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Teach me to wait with hope and confidence. When I become impatient or discouraged, remind me that You are always working, even when I cannot see it. Help me remain faithful, trusting Your perfect timing and looking forward to the return of Christ.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
