Scripture
“You must not fear them, for the Lord your God Himself fights for you.” (Deuteronomy 3:22, NKJV)
Devotional
Deuteronomy 3 recounts God’s faithfulness as Israel defeats Og, king of Bashan — a ruler whose size and strength once terrified the nations. What felt impossible became victorious because God Himself fought for Israel. Every enemy stood no chance against the God who goes before His people.
The chapter also records Moses’ tender moment with the Lord — his plea to enter the Promised Land. God’s answer was no, but not without compassion. Moses was permitted to climb Pisgah and see the land with his own eyes. Even in discipline, God was gentle. Even in disappointment, God was kind.
Then God strengthened Joshua: “You must not fear them, for the Lord your God Himself fights for you.” (v. 22) The victory ahead would not be Joshua’s skill, Israel’s strength, or perfect conditions — it would be God’s faithfulness.
This chapter shows us two truths we must hold together:
- God fights our battles. He does not send us into impossible situations alone. Where He leads, He defends.
- God’s plans may look different than our desires. Moses’s story reminds us that even when God says no, His goodness remains. His purposes are bigger than our perspective.
Deuteronomy 3 encourages every believer to walk forward with courage — not because the path is easy, but because the Lord Himself fights for us.
Takeaway & Reflection
God’s presence is our courage and our confidence.
- Victory is never by our strength, but by His.
- When God says “no,” His goodness is still at work.
- God finishes every battle He begins — perfectly and faithfully.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You fight for Your people. When I face battles that feel too big, remind me that nothing is too hard for You. Strengthen my heart when Your answers differ from my desires, and teach me to trust Your wisdom in all things. Establish me in the confidence that You finish what You start.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
